About

Our department was established in 2007 as a department of Russian Language and Literature under the Department of Western Languages and Literature within the Faculty of Literature of Akdeniz University. In 2015, it became the Department of Russian Language and Literature. Our department has started accepting students as of the 2019-2020 academic year. The aim of our department, which is based on a high quality and contemporary education, is to provide students with the theoretical and practical specialization at the advanced level, as well as to educate graduates who are culturally and socially equipped.

 

Graduates of the department earn their bachelor's degree and receive the title of Philologist. Students wishing to register in our department are required to take the central exam conducted by OSYM. The type of exam he / she takes is a Foreign Language exam (English). Students who register in our department are required to study Russian Preparatory Class at Akdeniz University, School of Foreign Languages. However, the students who successfully pass the Placement Test conducted by the School of Foreign Languages immediately after registration can start their undergraduate education without studying in the preparatory class. Students can also be admitted to our department by undergraduate transfer.

 

Program Profile

The Department of Russian Language and Literature is a four-year program. The students who are accepted to the department are prepared for various professions and business fields (education, culture, translation, tourism, foreign relations, etc.) by getting an equipped education in the fields of Literature and Linguistics. Ancillary disciplines that will contribute to the professional equipment of our students will be given as elective courses.

 

Physical and Technical Infrastructure

 

There are four classrooms dedicated to the use of the Russian Language and Literature department and two meeting / conference / seminar halls within the faculty. These classrooms and halls are equipped with equipment and services such as projectors, loudspeakers and wired internet network in order to increase the efficiency of education and training services. In addition, an independent department library is planned to be established.

 

 

Assessment and Evaluation

 

In accordance with the dates specified in the academic calendar of our university, a midterm exam and a final exam are held for each course. One midterm exam, one final exam and one make-up exam are scheduled for the semester. Mid-term evaluation consists of a midterm exam, homework, practice and similar studies. Exams are graded out of 100 points. The year-end grade calculated out of 100 is converted into a letter grade. A grading system of 4 is applied in our university.

 

Students who have been transferred to our department or who have been granted amnesty have been approved by the exemption commission / unit board decision,  if the content of the approved courses they have taken from the higher education institution (course content should be specified in detail, transcript is not sufficient) is the same or similar with the course content of our department,may be exempt from courses. Following the registration process, the application period for the exemption in question must be taken into consideration. It is not possible to apply for the exemption except for during the period granted for this procedure.

There is also an exemption exam for foreign language course (English). The required application period and the date of the exam must be taken into consideration for this exam conducted by the School of Foreign Languages. Foreign Language Course exemption exam applications are made to the School of Foreign Languages.

 

 

Graduation Conditions

In order to graduate from Russian Language and Literature Undergraduate Program, it is necessary to successfully complete 240 ECTS credits and to pass all courses. The final year students of our department prepare a final thesis on a determined topic.
